Real Madrid bring back Mourinho to coach through 2029
New: Madrid end a two-season trophy drought, while Benfica have moved to name Marco Silva as replacement.
Real Madrid have appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach of the senior team on a three-season contract through June 30, 2029. The move marks a second spell for Mourinho at Santiago Bernabeu after he led the club from 2010-2013 and delivered one LaLiga title, one Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup. According to a Sport Illustrated report cited by Antara, Madrid must also pay 13 million pounds in compensation to Benfica to end Mourinho's contract with the Portuguese club. Last season, Mourinho guided Benfica through an unbeaten Liga Portugal campaign, but the team finished third. Madrid brought Mourinho back as the club was going through two trophyless seasons.
