Purbaya: Patriot Bond funds won’t be traced, businesses can still be pursued

The legal shield under Article 50A covers only money placed in Danantara’s special bonds, not an investor’s broader assets.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said funds invested in Patriot Bond and Merah Putih Bond will not be traced for their origin, but the companies and business activities of the owners can still be processed if they are linked to taxes or other violations. He made the remarks in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, on Tuesday (23/6/2026), in response to Article 50A of Law No. 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. The rule provides legal protection for buyers of special debt securities issued by BPI Danantara. Purbaya stressed that the scheme is different from a tax amnesty because immunity does not apply broadly to all assets. The government, he said, wants to draw funds outside the system into the domestic economy to finance development.
