PSOI targets Olympic medal with multiyear training camp
PSOI is now focusing preparations on the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming for medals.
Persatuan Selancar Ombak Indonesia (PSOI) is targeting Olympic success after the government prepared long-term, or multiyears, funding support for the national training camp. PSOI Chairman Pandu Sjahrir said the scheme is important so surfer development can continue steadily, not only ahead of championships. The funding support was confirmed by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir after receiving direction from President Prabowo Subianto. According to PSOI, surfing requires a long athlete development process and adequate training facilities. After sending athletes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the 2024 Olympics, the federation is now directing preparations for the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics with a medal target.
