Pramono weighs removing bike lanes from Jakarta main roads

New: DKI Jakarta is preparing two options—keep 17 corridors or repurpose them—after public input on social media.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the DKI Jakarta administration is considering removing bike lanes from a number of Jakarta's main roads. The decision will be discussed at a special meeting in the near future, after he received extensive feedback from residents on social media. According to Pramono, two options are now being prepared: keeping the existing bike lanes or repurposing them so they are considered more useful. Bike lanes in Jakarta currently operate in 17 corridors and are regulated under Governor Regulation No. 128 of 2019 on the Provision of Bicycle Lanes. The call to remove them previously appeared on Threads, with the argument that the lanes are rarely used on weekdays and could be converted to widen the roadway.
