Prabowo urges Taruna Nusantara Cimahi students to study history
He said elite divisions and colonial divide-and-rule tactics are lessons to keep Indonesia from repeating old mistakes.
President Prabowo Subianto urged Indonesia's young people to study history diligently when he inaugurated SMA Taruna Nusantara Kampus Cimahi in Jawa Barat on Friday. He said a nation that forgets its history risks repeating the mistakes of its predecessors. In remarks broadcast on the Sekretariat Presiden YouTube channel, Prabowo said technology keeps changing, but human nature tends to remain the same, making history lessons still relevant. He cited Indonesia's experience of being colonized by other nations as the bitterest lesson, including divisions among the public and leaders. Prabowo also warned against the divide et impera strategy, or divide-and-rule politics, used by colonizers so it will not recur in the future.
