Prabowo targets plant-based gasoline production in 4 years
He also said B50 is starting to cut diesel imports this month, while promoting ethanol from cassava, corn and sorghum.
President Prabowo Subianto is targeting Indonesia to produce plant-based gasoline within three to four years to strengthen energy self-sufficiency. Speaking at the 79th National Cooperatives Day celebration at Indonesia Arena in Jakarta on Sunday, Prabowo said researchers are developing gasoline from palm oil as well as ethanol from cassava, corn and sorghum. He said the move could reduce reliance on fuel imports while boosting farmers' incomes. Prabowo also said the government has just launched biodiesel B50, a diesel blend containing 50 percent palm oil, and claimed Indonesia will begin this month to stop importing diesel from abroad.
