Prabowo targets free public schools, repairs by 2029
The government also aims for every school to have four interactive flat-panel classrooms by the end of 2026.
President Prabowo Subianto is targeting all public schools in Indonesia to stop charging fees, while accelerating repairs to damaged schools to be completed no later than 2029. He conveyed the commitment in a speech at the DPR RI plenary session for the presentation of the 2027 RAPBN at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, 14 August. Prabowo said the state must ensure every child can study in a safe and dignified school. He pointed to classrooms with leaking or collapsed roofs, cracked walls, damaged toilets and unsafe learning spaces. In addition to free public schools, the government is also targeting three additional interactive flat panels for each school, so that by the end of 2026 every school will have four classrooms equipped with IFP.
