Prabowo says Indonesia has veered off course since the 1990s
At a HIPMI national congress in Lampung, he tallied four losses before winning the 2024 presidential election.
President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia has been heading in the wrong direction since the 1990s, and that was why he kept running for president. Speaking at the opening of Munas HIPMI XVIII in Bandar Lampung on Wednesday (10/6), Prabowo said he had tried five times since the 2004 Golkar convention, with four defeats before finally winning the Pilpres 2024. He said his decision to keep contesting was not solely about office, but because he felt the country’s direction needed to be corrected. The speech was delivered at the Munas HIPMI forum, held June 10-11 2026 at Hotel Novotel Bandar Lampung and attended by thousands of participants.
