Prabowo reviews closure of 172 crossings, Gambir renovation
490 level crossings remain in process for closure, while Gambir is slated for a two-year renovation and KRL links.
President Prabowo Subianto received a report from Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi on accelerating the closure of level crossings and plans to upgrade rail hubs in Jakarta, Thursday (11/6/2026). Dudy said 172 crossings have been closed, 490 are still being processed, and 1.148 others will be closed. The largest concentration is in Jakarta and Jabodetabek, with 166 crossing barriers. During the meeting at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, the government also prepared a two-year renovation of Gambir Station so it can be integrated with KRL Commuter Line. Manggarai Station is also being prepared as a rail hub. The issue gained attention after the government highlighted the risk of accidents at level crossings across the national rail network.
