Prabowo prepares weather operations for El Nino and wildfires
The government is prioritizing reservoir levels, irrigation and hotspots in Riau through Kalimantan ahead of the dry-season peak.
President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday to prepare steps to address the impact of El Nino alongside the dry season. The main focus of the meeting was to maintain clean water supplies, agricultural irrigation and prevent forest and land fires. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said the government is preparing weather modification operations and monitoring fire points in vulnerable areas. Regions under attention include Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan. The government also stressed readiness at dams, reservoirs and lakes so water levels remain sufficient for households and rice fields, as El Nino could still intensify in the coming weeks or months.
