Prabowo meets Japan defense minister, advances RI-Japan DCA
No new arms contract was signed; talks centered on personnel exchanges, maritime security, and defense technology.
President Prabowo Subianto received Japan Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi at Kertanegara IV, South Jakarta, on Friday, June 12, 2026. The meeting followed up on the Defence Cooperation Arrangement (DCA) signed by the two defense ministers in May 2026. The Defense Ministry said the discussion covered personnel exchanges, education and training, maritime security, logistics, maintenance, and possible cooperation in defense technology and industry. The two sides also discussed human resource development, including the acceptance of Indonesian cadets at Japan's National Defense Academy. However, no new agreement was signed and no decision was made on arms procurement. Koizumi also presented Prabowo with a model of the warship Mikasa during the meeting.
