Prabowo launches B50 as Indonesia ends diesel imports

The government targets foreign-exchange savings of up to Rp157,28 trillion in 2026 after the 50% biodiesel blend takes effect.

President Prabowo Subianto launched the mandatory B50 biodiesel program at Rest Area KM 57, Karawang, West Java, on Thursday (9/7). With the 50% biodiesel blend applied to diesel fuel, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said Indonesia no longer imports diesel, which previously totaled about 3 million to 4 million kiloliters a year out of domestic consumption of 38 million to 40 million kiloliters. The policy is based on Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Regulation No. 4 of 2025 and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Decree No. 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026, effective July 1, 2026. The government sees B50 as a step to curb dependence on fuel imports, strengthen energy security and raise the value added of domestic palm oil.
