Prabowo pushes total vape ban after 12,000 drug cartridges found

Next, the President asked BNN, Kemenkes, Kemendag, BPOM and Bea Cukai to swiftly draft tighter rules on e-cigarette sales.

President Prabowo Subianto is pushing for a total ban on vape in Indonesia if a joint review shows e-cigarettes carry greater risks and are increasingly used as a gateway for new narcotics. The directive was delivered in remarks read by Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago at the 2026 International Anti-Narcotics Day commemoration in Kabupaten Bogor on July 23. Deputy chairman of Commission III of the DPR Ahmad Sahroni on Monday backed the move. He pointed to police findings on a home-based factory in Tangerang, Banten, that produced 12,000 cartridges for narcotics delivery medium, with turnover of Rp60 miliar and involvement of foreign nationals. Prabowo also ordered BNN, Kemenkes, Kemendag, Kementerian Hukum, BPOM and Bea Cukai to immediately draw up stricter rules for vape trade.
