Prabowo acknowledges Pindad-made Maung had leaks, vibration
He sent the complaints to Pindad for repairs, but the President still uses Maung to support the national auto industry.
President Prabowo Subianto acknowledged that the Maung tactical vehicle produced by PT Pindad and used by him once leaked during heavy rain and shook while crossing mountain roads. In a speech at the XVIII HIPMI National Conference on Wednesday, he said the unit had been returned to Pindad so the shortcomings could be fixed. Prabowo said the quality of national cars was still at an early stage of development and had not yet matched long-established brands such as BMW or Mercedes. Even so, he stressed that he would keep using Maung as an example of state support for domestic products. He also said the TNI now uses jeeps made in Indonesia, which he said is part of efforts to build a national automotive industry.
