Polri names 20 corporations suspects in wildfire cases, seeks 23 licenses revoked

Police said 97 companies remain under investigation, including 22 foreign investors, and 15 of 23 slated for revocation are already suspects.

Bareskrim Polri has named 20 corporations as suspects in forest and land fire cases in several parts of Indonesia. At a news conference in Kalimantan Barat on Thursday (29/10), police also said 97 companies remain under investigation; 22 of them are foreign investment firms from Malaysia, Singapore, Britain, China, Japan and South Korea. Of the total, 23 corporations were recommended for license revocation because of repeated fires, blazes originating from concession areas, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and burned land exceeding 500 hectares. Fifteen of the 23 corporations proposed for revocation have already been listed as suspects. Police said the number of corporate suspects could still rise as the investigation continues.
