Polri deports Abdul Karim Miqdad to Cyprus after red notice

His family denies terror allegations, while a rights group warns the move could pave the way for further extradition to Israel.

NCB Interpol Polri confirmed the arrest of Palestinian citizen Abdul Karim Raed Miqdad in Indonesia and his deportation to Cyprus on Friday, July 17, 2026. NCB Polri Secretary Untung Widyatmoko said the action was carried out at the request of NCB Interpol Nicosia after Miqdad was listed as an international fugitive under a red notice. Miqdad's family later denied that he was involved in terrorism, saying he fought for the rights of the Palestinian people through peaceful means, and questioned the legal basis for the arrest, which they said did not include details of the allegations or evidence. Geneva Council for Rights and Liberties also highlighted the speed of the process and warned that transfer to Cyprus could open the way for further extradition to Israel.
