Polresta Magelang withdraws backing for Andrea Bocelli concert at Borobudur
The reason for the withdrawal has not been disclosed, while Borobudur management awaits central guidance on the 31 October concert.
Polresta Magelang has withdrawn its recommendation for a permit for an Andrea Bocelli concert scheduled to take place at Candi Borobudur, Magelang regency, Central Java, on 31 October 2026. Polresta Magelang deputy chief AKBP Bim Rekoaji delivered the decision during a hearing at the Borobudur Tourism Park Unit office with protesters opposed to the event. Police did not explain the basis for the withdrawal. Commercial Group Head PT Taman Wisata Borobudur AY Suhartanto said the concert's status would be coordinated further while awaiting guidance from the central government. Earlier, the Majelis Ulama Indonesia called for the concert to be canceled, citing Bocelli's record, including an alleged fundraising effort for the Israeli military in 2010 and a performance in Tel Aviv in 2022. Another Bocelli concert in Jakarta is scheduled for 3 November.
