Polres Mimika confirms 9 teenage girls held hostage in Jila
Police have obtained the victims' names, ages 13-17, and are preparing a crime-scene review with extra Brimob personnel.
Polres Mimika confirmed that nine female civilians were being held hostage by an armed group in Jila District, Mimika Regency, Papua Tengah. Mimika Police Chief Alredo Agustinus Rumbiak said police have now received the victims' names from their families, after earlier still verifying reports from residents. The victims are mostly 13 to 17 years old. One victim, Nemerina Wamang, 17, is said to be in early pregnancy. Other victims named by police include Alin Mesawarol, Nopi Aim, Opinte Meswaro, Yonita Senawatme, Meria Nibilingame, Wena Katagame, Ilimin Onawame, and Miante Nibilingame. Police are preparing a crime-scene investigation and have requested support from Brimob Batalyon B to reinforce personnel at the Jila Police Sector.
