Poll finds 52% of Britons now back rejoining the EU
What's new: In a hypothetical new referendum, 33% would vote to stay out, while nearly 1 in 10 remain undecided.
An Ipsos poll found that 52% of Britons now think the UK should rejoin the European Union, a reversal from the 2016 referendum that took Britain out of the bloc. The survey of 1,137 adults was conducted from May 14 to May 20. Almost half of respondents supported holding another referendum, with opinion split on whether it should come before or after the next general election. Support for rejoining was strongest among younger voters and among Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green backers. Opposition remained concentrated among older voters and Reform UK supporters. The findings point to a broad shift in public sentiment, though views on immigration still divide Britain and shape the debate over ties with Europe.
