Police detain BMW driver after crash with motorcyclist in Meruya Selatan
The rider suffered only scrapes and was taken to RSUD Kembangan as police continue probing a possible hit-and-run.
Police detained the driver of a BMW, identified by the initials AW, after the car was allegedly involved in a crash with a motorcyclist on Jalan Meruya Selatan, near Universitas Mercu Buana, Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Monday (22/6). After the impact, the car with license plate B-77-NRI kept going for a time and was later vandalized by a crowd; video of the incident circulated on social media. Kembangan Police traffic chief AKP Karta said AW had been secured in Kebon Jeruk and the case had been handed over to the traffic accident unit of the West Jakarta Metro Police. Police said the victim, Sutiyo, suffered scrapes on his hands and feet and was treated at RSUD Kembangan. Karta also denied reports that the victim had died. According to the driver’s account, he left the scene because he feared being attacked by the crowd. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
