Police arrest 21-year-old student after assault on Dutch national in Manokwari
The victim suffered a torn left ear and bruises on his hand after being struck with a wooden stick in Amban.
Polresta Manokwari arrested PH, a 21-year-old student, on suspicion of assaulting Dutch national Yunus Deniz in Manokwari, West Papua, early Tuesday. Police said the suspect was found after a special team and a rapid response unit tracked down his hiding place. The incident began when the victim, his wife and a fellow Dutch national drove around the protected forest area in Amban, West Manokwari District, on Sunday (25/10). Police said the suspect, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, intercepted and followed them to ask for money. When the request was ignored, the argument escalated into a beating with a wooden stick. The victim suffered a torn left ear and two bruises on his hand. Investigators have charged PH under Article 466 of the Criminal Code and are still examining possible involvement by others.
