Poland summons Russian ambassador after missile lands in east

Warsaw delivered a protest note and said the escalation on the NATO-EU border is unacceptable.

Poland summoned the Russian ambassador after a missile fell in the country’s east and left a crater in a field near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia, about 80-95 kilometers from the Ukraine border. The Polish Foreign Ministry on 31 July delivered a protest note to Moscow and condemned what it called an act that threatened the security of a sovereign state and its citizens. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the summons was linked to a missile that hit Polish territory a day earlier, as Russia carried out a major long-range strike on multiple areas of Ukraine. NATO and European leaders blamed Russia for the blast. In Ukraine, the attack killed at least seven people, including children, and prompted Poland to deploy fighter jets as a precaution.
