PNM plants 70,000 mangroves, releases 1,000 hatchlings
The yearlong effort also included 2,000 coral seedlings and beach cleanups to support coastal livelihoods.
PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) carried out a series of marine and coastal ecosystem conservation efforts across Indonesia over the past year, including planting 70,000 mangrove trees, planting 2,000 coral seedlings, releasing 1,000 hatchlings into their natural habitat, and holding beach cleanups. The company said the activities involved various elements of the community. PNM President Director Kindaris said the move was intended to protect natural resources that sustain the lives of coastal communities and future generations. PNM said mangroves are important as a habitat for fish, shrimp and crabs that provide income for fishermen. Coral reefs are seen as protecting the marine food chain and fish stocks, while sea turtles are an indicator of ecosystem health. Plastic waste on the coast was also said to risk breaking down into microplastics and entering the marine food chain.
