PNM Mekaar loan interest rate to fall to 8 percent in September
About 14 million low-income women borrowers will pay far less than the previous 18%-25% loan cost.
The interest rate on PNM Mekaar loans will fall to 8 percent starting in early September 2026. The decision was made at a Credit for Business Program Steering Committee meeting at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Jakarta, chaired by Airlangga Hartarto and attended by the Finance Ministry and BPI Danantara. Small and medium enterprises minister Maman Abdurrahman said about 14 million low-income mothers and women who have been Mekaar customers for more than a decade have been paying interest in the 18%-25% range. The government said the cut follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive that Mekaar loan rates be set below 10 percent. Maman said a subsidy of about 10 percent has been prepared to lower borrowing costs, while PNM will continue its business mentoring model, financial literacy efforts and customer monitoring.
