PLN Carries Out Rolling Blackouts in Java After 2 Plants Fail

PLN said Java’s grid remains under control, but temporary load management is being used while supply dips and recovery is sped up.

PT PLN (Persero) imposed rolling blackouts in several areas of Java on Friday (19/6/2026) after two major generating units experienced disruptions. The outages reduced power supply capacity, prompting PLN to carry out limited and measured load management to keep the system balanced. Blackout reports came from, among others, South Tangerang, Depok, and the University of Indonesia area. Some residents said the power was out for two to more than three hours. Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL PLN Gregorius Adi Trianto said Java’s electricity system is still operating and under control, while output from other plants is being maximized. Energy observer from Gadjah Mada University, Fahmy Radhi, said repeated outages also need to be traced to coal supply chains and the implementation of the Domestic Market Obligation scheme.
