PLN EPI builds green hydrogen ecosystem, eyes jet fuel
Initial markets targeted include fertilizer, refining, petrochemicals, steel, and chemicals before expanding into e-SAF for aviation.
PLN Energi Primer Indonesia has begun building an integrated green hydrogen ecosystem and is targeting the low-carbon hydrogen market for industry, power generation, and sustainable aviation fuel in Indonesia. In the initial phase, the company is focusing on sectors with high hydrogen demand, including fertilizer and ammonia plants, oil refineries and petrochemicals, the steel and metals industry, and the chemical industry. PLN EPI also sees potential to develop electro-sustainable aviation fuel, or e-SAF, which combines green hydrogen with carbon dioxide captured from emissions to produce synthetic crude, then process it into low-carbon aviation fuel. According to Anita Puspita Sari, demand for e-SAF is expected to keep rising as international rules push sustainable aviation fuel.
