Platner’s wife calls reports on explicit texts ‘shameful’

Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner’s wife denounced reports on his past explicit text messages as the Democrat faces fresh scrutiny.

Amy Gertner, the wife of Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, called reports about his past sexually explicit text messages with several women “shameful” as his campaign faced another controversy. In a video posted over the weekend, Gertner said media outlets were spreading gossip and described the disclosure of her talks with a campaign aide as a betrayal that “deeply hurt.” Platner is seeking the Democratic nomination in a closely watched race tied to efforts to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins. The Wall Street Journal first reported the messages, and The New York Times said former aide Genevieve McDonald was among staffers who confirmed them. Platner has already faced scrutiny over a tattoo identified as a Nazi symbol and past Reddit posts using homophobic slurs.
