Pertamina Patra Niaga promotes food security via biofloc in Dumai

The program uses a 4.4 kWp solar power system, cutting annual electricity costs by Rp9.3 juta and emissions by 5.52 tons of CO2.

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is carrying out a community-empowerment-based food security program in several areas, including tilapia farming with biofloc technology in Kelurahan Mundam, Kecamatan Medang Kampai, Kota Dumai, Riau. The scheme is aimed at coastal residents who have long depended on marine catches, whose yields often vary because of weather, limited fisheries infrastructure and erosion. The fish harvest period is said to be around 4-6 months. The Dumai program is also supported by a 4.4 kWp solar power plant. In Sumatera Utara, through Fuel Terminal Pematang Siantar, the company is developing the Siantar Habonaron program, which combines layer chicken farming, vegetable cultivation, and processing of organic waste and maggots to meet household food needs.
