Pertamina installs solar power on oil barge, saving 28 KL diesel a year
The 11.5 kWp system and 32 kWh battery on OB Patra 2303 also cut emissions by 79.2 tons of CO2 equivalent a year.
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy has installed a solar power plant on the oil barge OB Patra 2303 owned by PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental, making it the first PLTS installation on an oil barge within Pertamina. The off-grid 11.5 kWp system is paired with a 32 kWh battery energy storage system to supply the vessel's auxiliary engine power needs. The company said the solar energy can replace part of the diesel use for up to about six hours of vessel operation, reducing solar consumption by 28.08 kiloliters a year. The efficiency is expected to save about Rp365 million in operating costs annually and cut emissions by 79.2 tons of CO2 equivalent. Installation and operation of the system were carried out at the Pangkal Pinang shipyard in Bangka Belitung on 11 June 2026.
