38-year-old woman in Jembrana dies suspected of rabies
The victim never received wound care or an anti-rabies vaccine after being bitten by a cat about a month earlier.
A woman identified as NKS, 38, a resident of Tukadaya Village, Melaya District, Jembrana Regency, Bali, died with a suspected rabies diagnosis after being bitten by a cat. NKS was taken to the emergency unit at RSU Negara on Saturday, May 23, at 18:42 WITA with complaints of fear of water, agitation when exposed to wind, and shortness of breath since the previous day. Gusti Ngurah Putu Adnyana, head of medical services at RSU Negara, said the family reported the victim had been bitten by a cat about a month before treatment. However, the bite wound was not treated and she never received an anti-rabies vaccine. The medical team diagnosed encephalitis, hydrophobia and aerophobia. Her condition continued to worsen, and she was pronounced dead on May 24 at 03:46 WITA.
