Pentagon to livestream Dec. 3 firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan
What's next: Military-law experts say Hasan could file a habeas petition in civilian court, a move that could delay the execution.
The Pentagon said Thursday that the Dec. 3 firing-squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed, adding a new twist to what would be the first military execution in more than 65 years. Hasan, a former Army major and psychiatrist, was convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood attack that killed 13 people and wounded 32 others at the Texas base. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had said a day earlier that the execution would be public, and Pentagon officials later specified it would be shown live. The Army set the execution date this week. Legal experts told AP that Hasan could still try to block the execution by filing a habeas petition in civilian court.
