Pentagon orders shelter-in-place after air quality alarm

What's new: HazMat crews from Arlington County joined Pentagon responders as officials tested corridors 4-7 on floors 2-5.

The Pentagon ordered some workers to shelter in place Thursday after monitoring systems detected an air quality problem inside the building. The affected area covered corridors 4 through 7 on floors 2 through 5, where employees were told to remain in their offices while testing continued. Arlington County Fire Department said its hazardous materials team was operating at the Pentagon alongside the Pentagon Force Protection Agency's Hazmat Team. Pentagon guards were seen wearing gas masks, and some areas of the complex were closed or evacuated as a precaution. Officials said the cause of the air quality issue was still under investigation, and no injuries or deaths had been reported.
