Government targets E10 gasoline to start in 2027, then E20

The government is targeting gasoline with a 10 percent ethanol blend, or E10, to take effect in 2027, then gradually move to E20 in 2028-2029. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the study on an ethanol mandate, drawn up since 2025, is now nearly complete and will form the basis for the rollout roadmap. He said the policy is aimed at reducing gasoline imports, but the government does not want ethanol supplies to come from abroad. For that reason, the government will first prepare the industry over the next one to two years. Feedstocks being lined up include cassava, sugarcane, corn, and other crops. Bahlil said the rollout will follow the biodiesel model, which has been introduced gradually from B10 to B50.
