Government cuts rail, ship and air fares during school break
The package runs from 20 June-15 August 2026, including government coverage of economy airfare VAT from 24 June-5 July.
The government is offering fare discounts across transport modes during the 2026 school holiday to encourage mobility, support purchasing power and bolster domestic tourism. The policy includes a 30 percent cut for commercial economy-class trains from 20 June-5 July 2026 and for economy-class passenger sea transport from 20 June-15 August 2026. For ferry transport, port service fees will be waived for foot passengers and vehicles in classes II and IVA at 14 ports on seven routes, including Merak-Bakauheni and Ketapang-Gilimanuk, from 20 June-5 July. The government will also cover 100 percent of the VAT on scheduled economy-class airline tickets for 24 June-5 July 2026. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the policy is being carried out under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto and is part of an economic stimulus package through Christmas 2026 and New Year's 2027.
