Government raises MBG egg purchases to three times a week
Bapanas will also monitor the Rp26.500 per kg floor for eggs and use Bulog corn to help lower feed costs for farmers.
The government has increased egg purchases for the Free Nutritious Meals Program to three times a week after broiler egg prices at the farm level fell because of oversupply. National Food Agency head and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the move was taken after meeting representatives of layer farmers from across Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday. In addition to expanding purchases through Badan Gizi Nasional, the government will oversee the purchase reference price for eggs at the farm level at Rp26.500 per kilogram. Perum Bulog is also distributing corn through the SPHP program to help stabilize feed costs. Pinsar Petelur Nasional chairman Yudianto Yosgiarso said the added MBG purchases would help farmers absorb excess stock and ease price pressure at the producer level.
