Government opens 491 oxygen care sites for haze

Emergency respiratory services are expanding across six priority provinces as cumulative ARI cases hit 333,470.

The government is operating 491 oxygen care sites and mobile services to treat breathing problems caused by wildfire haze. The facilities are being prioritized in Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan, with vulnerable residents such as toddlers and the elderly as the main target. The Health Ministry said the oxygen care sites are special rooms supplied with oxygen from concentrators or cylinders, along with health workers to monitor patients and give symptomatic medicine if needed. Residents who experience shortness of breath, a drop in oxygen saturation or other haze-related complaints can use them for first aid. Health Ministry data show cumulative acute respiratory infection cases linked to wildfires have reached 333,470, including 75,172 cases among toddlers, with 4,522 daily cases.
