UN special rapporteur urges Indonesians to boycott Israel-linked products

Francesca Albanese said consumer power can pressure companies, banks and investors that profit from the occupation of Palestine.

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, urged Indonesians to use economic power to pressure Israel to end the occupation of Palestine. In a discussion organized by Amnesty International Indonesia at Taman Ismail Marzuki in Jakarta on Wednesday (21/10), she called on people to choose consistent boycott actions, from daily consumption to investment. Albanese cited examples such as stopping use of Airbnb, not buying Coca-Cola, or avoiding Zara. She also asked the public to review the BDS Indonesia boycott list, including the banking sector, then choose one to three entities seen as linked to the occupation. According to Albanese, support for Palestine should not stop at diplomacy and political statements, but needs to be translated into measurable economic pressure.
