Mirror vendor dies after crowd unrest in Pejompongan

Family says Bambang went out to check conditions and was confirmed as the victim only around 04.00 WIB.

Mirror vendor Bambang Setiyawan, 59, died after leaving his home during a crowd disturbance in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, August 27. His wife, Sudarsi, said they closed the stall early because a crowd had begun to gather, then returned home. After conditions were judged safer, Bambang went out to see what was happening. According to Sudarsi, her husband often watched gatherings and sometimes helped protesters by pouring water so they could wash their faces. Bambang did not return late into the night. The family began searching at around 01.30 WIB, then received a video in the early morning to confirm the victim’s identity. Between about 03.00 and 04.00 WIB, the family confirmed the person in the video was Bambang. ANTARA said the victim was later known to be at RS Polri.
