Pakistan minister arrives in Tehran with new U.S.-Iran mediation proposal
Islamabad is trying to restart a second round of stalled talks after the 8 April temporary cease-fire.
Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday to continue Islamabad's mediation in the conflict between the United States and Iran. According to Tasnim and Pakistani sources quoted by Anadolu, Naqvi brought several new proposals aimed at breaking the deadlock in the talks and pushing for a temporary understanding between Tehran and Washington. In Tehran, he is scheduled to meet senior Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The visit follows Naqvi's meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Bishkek at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization interior ministers forum. Pakistan has been directly involved as a mediator since the conflict broke out on 28 February. A temporary cease-fire was reached on 8 April, but negotiations later stalled again because of disputes over implementation and regional security developments.
