A 16-year-old gunman killed a teacher and three children at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, before an armed community member shot him dead, police said. Two more victims — a 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher — were taken to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities said the suspect fired at a car, then forced his way into the school by shooting through locked doors. About 450 students and 40 staff members were evacuated to a nearby church while officers searched the building room by room. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said the person who stopped the attacker saw him enter the school and followed him inside. The victims who died were children ages 5, 8 and 11, along with a teacher.
