Oil spill appears in waters south of Singapore
Authorities have deployed spill-response contractors, but ship traffic and port operations are still proceeding normally.
An oil spill was detected in Singapore's southern waters, around Pulau Sebarok, Pulau Semakau and Selat Pauh, on 1 November at about 10.25 local time. The Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) received an initial report from waters near Pulau Sebarok, then confirmed several oil slicks through aerial surveillance. MPA said it had not found similar slicks at West Coast, Sentosa, Southern Islands or East Coast. Authorities have activated oil-spill response contractors and asked terminals in the area to deploy cleanup resources. Related agencies have also been put on alert to protect shorelines if needed. MPA is still investigating the source of the oil while continuing monitoring and cleanup. So far, the incident has not disrupted vessel navigation or port operations.
