Obama mocks Trump White House remodel at Ohio midterm rally
What's new: Obama tied the jab to Democrats' Ohio campaigns, backing Amy Acton for governor and Sherrod Brown for Senate.
Former President Barack Obama used a Cleveland campaign rally to ridicule President Donald Trump’s White House renovation projects, joking that the residence looked like “Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.” Obama, campaigning in Ohio for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton and Senate candidate Sherrod Brown, mocked Trump’s focus on a new ballroom, Rose Garden changes, a South Lawn helipad and gold-colored decor. The White House upgrades include limestone paving in the Rose Garden, a granite helipad for Marine One and a planned permanent ballroom to replace temporary tents used for large state events. Obama also used the appearance to fault Trump’s foreign policy and urge voters to back Democrats ahead of the midterm elections.
