NYC stabbing suspect held as hate-crime probe expands on Upper West Side
What's new: Two men, ages 50 and 57, were hospitalized in stable condition as officials examined whether antisemitism drove the attacks.
A suspect was in custody Friday after two men were stabbed on Manhattan's Upper West Side in an attack authorities were examining as a possible hate crime. Officials identified the suspect as Raul Morales, 51. The victims, ages 50 and 57, were found near West 84th Street and Central Park West on Thursday afternoon with stab wounds to the torso and back, and both were hospitalized in stable condition. Witness and victim statements cited by officials said the attacker yelled "Allahu Akbar" during the assaults. Police had not publicly established a motive, but state and city officials condemned the violence, while Jewish leaders said the episode added to fears about antisemitic attacks in New York City.
