NTT extends Flores quake emergency status through Sept. 12

The emergency system will remain in place as logistics move through a disaster channel, with 9,278 aftershocks and 111 dead.

The Nusa Tenggara Timur provincial government has extended the Flores earthquake emergency status for 14 days, effective Aug. 29 through Sept. 12, 2026. BNPB said the first extension was needed so the delivery of logistics and other aid could continue under an emergency scheme without administrative hurdles. A magnitude 7.7 quake struck NTT on Aug. 15. As of Saturday, BNPB recorded 111 deaths and 9,278 aftershocks, with the largest measuring 6.2 and 153 felt by residents. Evacuee data also rose sharply after validation in Ngada; the count in the district changed from 3,259 to 21,552 people. BNPB reported aid received today totaled 5 tons, while total aid delivered reached 22 tons.
