NParks employee, others investigated over snake handling in Mandai
What's new: Moving wildlife in Singapore parks without approval can bring a fine of up to S$5,000.
Singapore's National Parks Board is investigating an employee and several other people after videos showed a snake being handled during a nighttime outing on Mandai Trail. NParks said the staff member was there in a personal capacity. Images posted on May 31 showed one man removing a snake from a tree while another posed with a smaller snake, alongside people carrying torches and camera gear. The incident happened on May 26 in the Mandai area, a popular spot for nature photographers. NParks said capturing or displacing animals in public parks without permission is illegal and urged people to observe wildlife from a distance. The Herpetological Society of Singapore said rising wildlife handling could stress animals and increase human-wildlife conflict.
