Norway weighs FIFA ethics complaint over Balogun ban reversal

Norway's soccer federation is considering a formal ethics complaint to FIFA over the suspended one-match ban that let United States forward Folarin Balogun play against Belgium at the World Cup. NFF president Lise Klaveness said the board will take up the issue at its next meeting, likely on Aug. 6. Balogun had been set to miss the last-16 match after a straight red card in a 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, but FIFA deferred the ban for 12 months after President Donald Trump asked Gianni Infantino to review the call. Belgium, which lost its own request for an explanation, called the episode deeply concerning. The IOC has said any ethics complaints involving Infantino would remain confidential unless sanctions are imposed.
