Norway Crown Princess Mette-Marit undergoes lung transplant

What's next: She is expected to stay in an Oslo hospital for several weeks as doctors monitor complications and adjust medication.

Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has undergone a lung transplant in Oslo, the royal household said, after a sharp decline in the pulmonary fibrosis she disclosed in 2018. Doctors at Oslo University Hospital said the operation had been successful so far and that the 52-year-old will remain hospitalized for several weeks during recovery. Mette-Marit, the wife of Crown Prince Haakon, was placed on the transplant waiting list earlier this month. Her doctors had said patients added to the list are generally believed to have about a year to live without surgery. The hospital said transplant recipients face a delicate recovery, including lifelong immunosuppressive treatment.
