Nobel Peace Prize decision puts Trump reaction in focus in Oslo
What's next: The laureate is due at 11 a.m. in Oslo, from a field of 287 nominees kept secret for 50 years.
The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize is set to be revealed Friday in Oslo, with attention centered not only on the winner but also on how President Donald Trump may respond. The Norwegian Nobel Committee is scheduled to name the laureate at 11 a.m. local time at the Nobel Institute. This year, 287 individuals and organizations were nominated for the award, though the list is sealed for 50 years. PBS said live coverage would begin at 4:50 a.m. EDT. Last year’s prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Analysts cited by The Straits Times said the committee’s choice could be read as an indirect rebuke of Trump, who has publicly argued he deserves the award.
