Nick Reiner seeks trust funds for defense in parents' killings

What's new: The filing says the trust holds at least $1.5 million and a former lawyer could return if the money is released.

Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner, has asked a Los Angeles County court to release money from a trust his parents created for him, arguing he needs it to fund his murder defense. The petition filed Monday says trustees have wrongly withheld payments that were supposed to be made when he turned 30, and that he should also receive the rest early because he needs legal representation and basic necessities in jail. Reiner, 32, has pleaded not guilty to two murder counts in the Dec. 14 stabbing deaths of his parents at their Brentwood home. The filing says the trust has at least $1.5 million in assets. Attorney Alan Jackson said his firm is prepared to resume representing Reiner if the funds become available.
