Netanyahu keeps Israeli troops in southern Lebanon
That leaves ceasefire and normalization prospects with Lebanon slim as long as Hizbullah remains armed.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces will remain in a security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as it is deemed necessary to protect Israelis in the north. In remarks quoted by AFP, Netanyahu also stressed that he will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons while in office. He said combined US and Israeli strikes had dealt a heavy blow to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and created conditions that could shake the regime in Tehran. Netanyahu added that Israel is still targeting Hizbullah fighters in Lebanon and will only open the way to peace when the group is dismantled and disarmed.
